Why does my logo have a butterfly?

TRUDY KELLY Celebrant

I chase butterflies every summer – usually with a camera, hoping they will settle and I get the perfect shot of their detail while they’re still for a moment.

They inspire us with their minute detail and the power in their wings.

When I started to look at my branding, it was a very easy decision that there needed to be a butterfly. Not just because I love to photograph them but because they were special to my mum and dad.

Sadly dad died in 2012 at only 67 and mum in 2022 after a long illness.

Their story is a huge part of what I am doing now and how I got here.  And the butterfly represents so much of that.  It works for all the types of ceremonies I write.

In spirituality, butterflies are often seen to represent change, transformation, hope and your inner self.

Beautifully it’s also said that a loved one or spirit guide may send you a message of hope or peace when a butterfly lands on you. They may also find you if your spirit is compassionate.  There’s more information about it here.

I don’t have a faith, but I do believe in something I can’t quite put words to.

My dad though belonged to a spiritualist church, something that gave him great comfort following a lot of loss in our family.

He also had very clear values, he believed in giving something back, over the years he was there for so many others.

After an accident ended his working life in his 50s, he volunteered at our local hospital in the stroke ward. He made things that he designed to make life easier for the patients, all very individual and made with such love and thought.

Over this time I also discovered how creative dad was. He’d always had a camera but early retirement saw the start of his love of woodworking, he turned and made such beautiful things from bowls to pens.

After a very difficult few years I was searching for something. My job was no longer giving me joy. I was constantly compromising my values and boundaries. It was clear at this stage in my life that I needed to look for something else.

Interestingly when I was looking at my branding, I asked my friends for words to describe me.  They said I was ‘empathetic, wise, caring, warm, a good listener and a safe pair of hands.’

I think I am my father’s daughter.

Celebrancy as a career found me really, a chance Facebook post (of course it then stalked me, thanks to social media’s algorithms!)

I have loved the training, the power of words and the support that I could give to people who really needed it.  If I can help you, please get in touch here.

So for my branding, having a butterfly as part of it was so important. So I remember where I came from and what makes me – me.
